When breast cancer is detected early, in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 100%. Because catching the disease early is so vital in combating the growth and spread of breast cancer, National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) has developed an Early Detection Plan app. The app - which is free and available in both English and Spanish - is available on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and at www.earlydetectionplan.org.
he app reminds you to schedule self-breast exams, clinical breast exams and mammograms. Your profile - which you can set up in just a few minutes - outlines two basic facts about you: your age and family breast cancer history. The app’s Clinics tab helps you locate breast health facilities (such as clinics, medical centers and health offices) in your area - sort of like a Yelp for breast health.
The NBCF app is just one way you can promote your health from the inside out this Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can also keep your body safe from external threats with a self-defense tool from SABRE’s NBCF line. In addition to helping you fend off attackers, simply having this product on your keychain will encourage you to keep breast health top of mind.
